Lomi Lomi Massage at Mindful Touch

Lomi Lomi is one of the most profound and ancient forms of massage. Derived from the master healers of Hawaii, a translation for Lomi Lomi is "Loving Hands".

Hawaiian philosophy believes everything seeks harmony and love. During the massage I focus my thoughts and intentions on your wellness and happiness, using loving hands and kindness in my heart.

Lomi Lomi works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body and, enabling the recipient to relax, and simply be.

Hawaiian philosophy considers all things as energy flow. Lomi Lomi encourages this using long continuous, flowing strokes, resulting in relaxation of your entire body.

Their belief in holistic healing is fundamental. When healing is effected on one level, all levels are affected. Lomi Lomi promotes mental, emotional and spiritual healing alongside physical health.

Cleansing ritual and prayer
A spiritual element is integral in all my work and a key aspect of Lomi Lomi.

Once you are settled onto the couch and covered with a large sarong, we will commence a short cleansing ritual.

Initially I use a smouldering taper of wood from the mystical tree Palo Santo from South America to purify the air. This wood has been used for many centuries by Shamans in prayer, ceremonies and healing.

Palo Santo

Palo Santo has energetically cleansing and healing properties and smells wonderful. Next, salt water is sprinkled onto and around you. Salt water also has ancient roots in purification rituals.
Your attention is drawn to the seven chakra points, taking a deep nourishing breath at each one. Finally, a blessing in the form of words of kindness are given, both at the start and end of the massage.

Clients from all faiths are welcomed and respected here, if you feel uncomfortable receiving this blessing and ritual please just let me know and it can be omitted, no apologies or embarrassment needed.

Lomi Lomi draping
A major difference between Lomi Lomi massage and Swedish massage is the draping used. Minimal draping is used during Lomi Lomi. A neatly folded sarong covers your private area with a small towel covering ladies breasts. This light draping, alongside a provided paper thong, ensures your modesty is maintained whilst enabling the signature long strokes of lomi lomi to be performed without interrupting the flow of the massage. If you wish to receive your Lomi Lomi massage with an alternative draping arrangment please contact Ross directly.

You will be lying directly on a vinyl covering of the massage table. This will have been pre-warmed using a heated underblanket.

Warmth in the room
The Shepherd's hut is always warm and this is especially true during Lomi Lomi massage. The heating is turned up and oil is warmed to ensure you are comfortable.

An intuitive massage
During the massage I work very intuitively. There is no set format or sequence and no two massages are the same. This ensures I focus and use intuition to listen to your body and provide the massage you need. Differing lengths of time and pressure on different parts of the body are used.

Fluid rhythmic movements resulting in deep relaxation
A fluid and rhythmic motion is achieved using my forearms, wrists and hands. Some people have described this as feeling like gentle waves moving over their body.

Cross-lateral movement promoting mind-body integration
There are certain specific movements that promote hemisphere integration. These are often seen in yoga and dance.

A profound feature of Lomi Lomi is that different parts of the body are massaged at the same time, for example, one arm or hand may be working on a shoulder and the other hand may be working on the opposite hip. I incorporate this principle of cross-lateral massage to further encourage hemispheric integration during your treatment.

As discussed by the renowned mindfulness expert Prof Daniel J. Siegel;

"In order to live balanced, meaningful, and creative lives full of connected relationships, it's crucial that our two hemispheres work together."
(Siegel and Bryson The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind ).

Stretches and movement of the limbs
During the massage gentle stretches and rotations of the joints are incorporated. These assist the release of tension and the flow of energy. The gentle rhythmic movement of your limbs is deeply comforting and again helps you relax into the Lomi Lomi massage.

Varied speed and flow
During your massage the speed and rhythm will subtly change. Sometimes being slow and very relaxing, other times a little faster to invigorate and enliven you.

Finishing your visit with a face and scalp massage
Your massage can be rounded off with a head, face and scalp massage if you choose. This a beautiful and popular way to end any massage. Clients are always told before I touch their face.

What to wear
Lomi Lomi massage uses lots of oil. Some of this may transfer to you clothing after your treatment, so it's worth wearing loose fitting older clothes.
